Welcome to the Stanford Science Policy Group !
Our mission
To empower students and professionals at Stanford to connect scientific research, policy, and communication. Ultimately, we aim to create a hub at the intersection of science and policy to help drive positive change in the world.
Join us for our events, seminars, and hill days to get involved with science policy on and off campus!
At SSPG, we offer multiple ways to get involved—whether you’re new to science policy or ready to take action. For scientists, we offer opportunities to engage with current policy issues, develop policy-relevant professional skills, and gain exposure to a broad range of public policy sectors. For non-scientists, we aim to provide accessible, science-based insights on timely policy topics and foster productive dialogue across the many dimensions of science and policy.
You can be part of SSPG too!
Students, postdocs, and scientists can attend speaker events, campus panels, and conversations that explore the intersection of science and society. For those looking to build skills and collaborate, we offer hands-on workshops in science communication, policy writing, and advocacy. Students can join working groups that explore specific policy topics through journal clubs, policy memos, and collaborative research. And at the leadership and advocacy level, students can participate in Hill Days to meet directly with lawmakers and advocate for evidence-based policy, both at the state and federal levels.
But we’re not just here for scientists! In a democracy, science communication is science policy—and you don’t need a PhD to make an impact. Our goal is to start a dialogue with the broader public: to share science-informed perspectives and to listen, learn, and exchange ideas. That’s why we publish accessible, expert-written explainers on science topics and their policy implications—designed to inform and inspire.
